India assures fuel supply stability amid West Asia tensions

New Delhi: The government has assured fuel supply stability India despite rising tensions in West Asia and disruptions such as the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

Officials confirmed that petrol and diesel stocks remain adequate at all retail outlets. Moreover, refineries are operating at high capacity, ensuring uninterrupted supply across the country.

At the same time, authorities urged citizens to avoid panic buying and rely only on official information, as rumours had caused temporary crowding in some areas.

Energy supplies remain stable across sectors

To maintain fuel supply stability India, the government has increased domestic LPG production and adjusted duties on petroleum products. Additionally, export levies have been imposed on diesel and aviation turbine fuel to prioritise domestic availability.

Meanwhile, natural gas supply remains prioritised for households and transport. Supplies to urea plants are steady at 70–75% of recent averages, while additional LNG and RLNG cargoes are being sourced.

City Gas Distribution companies are expanding access rapidly. Notably, more than 2.9 lakh PNG connections were added in March across domestic and commercial categories.

LPG distribution and alternative fuels

Although global disruptions have affected LPG supply, domestic distribution continues without major shortages. In fact, over 55 lakh LPG cylinders were delivered in a single day, supported by improved tracking systems.

Furthermore, the government has raised commercial LPG allocation to 70% of pre-crisis levels, prioritising key sectors like restaurants and industries.

To reduce pressure, authorities are promoting alternatives such as PNG, kerosene, and electric cooking solutions. States have also been asked to fast-track approvals for gas infrastructure.

Shipping and logistics remain unaffected

Shipping operations remain stable despite regional tensions. Two LPG carriers carrying about 94,000 metric tonnes have safely crossed the region and are heading towards Indian ports.

In addition, port operations across India remain normal, with no congestion reported. Authorities continue to monitor vessel movement and ensure safety.

Public advisory and monitoring measures

The government reiterated that fuel and LPG supplies are sufficient. Therefore, citizens should avoid panic purchases and unnecessary bookings.

People have also been encouraged to conserve energy and shift to cleaner alternatives wherever possible.
