DAC clears ₹2.38 lakh crore defence proposals

New Delhi: DAC defence proposals worth ₹2.38 lakh crore aim to strengthen India’s military capabilities across services.

The Defence Acquisition Council, chaired by Rajnath Singh, approved these plans on March 27, 2026.

DAC defence proposals boost Army and Air Force

For the Indian Army, the council cleared systems such as Air Defence Tracked System and High Capacity Radio Relay. These systems will improve real-time air defence and communication.

The approval also includes the Dhanush Gun System. It will enhance long-range artillery performance with better accuracy. In addition, Armoured Piercing Tank Ammunition will improve anti-tank capability.

The Army will also receive Runway Independent Aerial Surveillance Systems. These will strengthen surveillance in different terrains.

For the Indian Air Force, the council approved Medium Transport Aircraft. These will replace ageing AN-32 and IL-76 fleets and improve airlift capacity.

It also cleared the S-400 missile system to counter long-range aerial threats. Remotely Piloted Strike Aircraft will support offensive and surveillance missions.

Officials also approved the overhaul of Su-30 aero engine components. This will extend aircraft service life and improve readiness.

Coast Guard and overall defence push

For the Indian Coast Guard, the council cleared Heavy Duty Air Cushion Vehicles. These will support coastal patrol, rescue missions and logistics operations.

In the financial year 2025–26, the council has approved 55 proposals worth ₹6.73 lakh crore. It has also signed contracts for 503 projects worth ₹2.28 lakh crore.

Officials said both figures mark the highest approvals and contracts in a single financial year.

Overall, the DAC defence proposals signal a major push to modernise India’s defence forces and enhance operational readiness.
