New Delhi: The Ministry of Steel and its PSUs conducted Swachhata Pakhwada from March 16 to 31, organising nationwide cleanliness drives and awareness activities.
The programme followed the 2026 calendar issued by the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation. Moreover, officials and employees across plants and units participated in multiple initiatives during the period.
The Ministry began the Swachhata Pakhwada by administering the Swachhata Pledge. It also displayed banners and standees at key locations to spread awareness. In addition, teams carried out cleaning activities across office premises and inspected rooms, the library and record sections.
Swachhata Pakhwada activities span safety and sustainability
PSUs organised ‘Steel Safety Day’ on March 28 as part of the programme. They also conducted fire safety drills and workshops on solid waste management. Furthermore, teams carried out cleanliness drives in factories, townships, nearby villages, slums and schools.
Additionally, officials held awareness campaigns to discourage single-use plastics. As a result, the initiative aimed to promote both hygiene and environmental responsibility.
The Ministry concluded the Swachhata Pakhwada on March 31 with a commitment to continue cleanliness efforts throughout the year. Meanwhile, it said PSUs are preparing action plans for FY 2026–27.
These plans focus on reducing slag, minimising iron ore fines and recycling gaseous waste for power generation. Therefore, the Ministry said the measures will strengthen environmental sustainability in the steel sector.
