Harish Rao slams Kishan Reddy over Telangana remarks in Parliament

Hyderabad: BRS leader Harish Rao criticised Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy over his Telangana remarks in the Rajya Sabha, alleging that he misled Parliament.

He said the Telangana remarks distorted facts and insulted the State’s self-respect. Therefore, he accused the Union Minister of spreading falsehoods during his speech.

In a statement, Harish Rao said Kishan Reddy had failed to support the Telangana movement earlier. Now, he alleged, the Minister was again presenting misleading claims.

He objected to remarks on the transfer of seven mandals to Andhra Pradesh. Calling it a historical falsehood, he said the Centre was responsible for the decision.

He added that the BJP-led Union government had brought an amendment and issued an ordinance for the transfer. As a result, he said Kishan Reddy could not deny responsibility.

Telangana remarks spark row over Kaleshwaram claims

Harish Rao said K. Chandrasekhar Rao had opposed the mandal transfer at the time. He added that a Telangana bandh was also called in protest.

However, he alleged that Kishan Reddy was now attempting to rewrite history through his Telangana remarks. Moreover, he said the comments reflected a broader political agenda.

Turning to the Kaleshwaram project, he accused the Union Minister of repeating false propaganda. According to him, such statements indicated an understanding between Congress and the BJP.

He questioned claims made about the project and asked whether it was not one of the largest lift irrigation systems. He also raised concerns about denying water supply to farmers.

Challenging Kishan Reddy, he urged him to visit Telangana and assess the situation directly. In addition, he criticised remarks on public spending as immature.

He said major projects were funded through government resources, not personal funds. Finally, he alleged that MPs from both BJP and Congress were failing to raise Telangana’s voice in Parliament.
