Tummala Nageswara Rao rejects Koheda fruit market allegations

Hyderabad: Tummala Nageswara Rao on Tuesday rejected allegations made by T. Harish Rao regarding the Koheda fruit market project, calling them false and misleading.

He said the government led by A. Revanth Reddy was committed to farmer welfare. He clarified that no decision had been taken to sell land allocated for the project.

Koheda fruit market project to follow international standards

Tummala Nageswara Rao said the government planned to develop the facility with modern infrastructure. A detailed project report has been prepared with an estimated cost of ₹3,087 crore.

In contrast, he alleged that the previous government had proposed a much smaller outlay. He also said earlier administrations failed to develop the project despite having sufficient time.

Furthermore, he noted that the government had allocated additional land to strengthen the project. The cabinet approved handing over 239 acres to the Marketing Department in February 2026.

Expansion aims to benefit farmers and exports

The Minister said the expanded plan includes agri-export and food processing units. As a result, farmers will gain better access to national and global markets.

He added that the project would ensure improved price realisation for horticulture produce. In addition, modern infrastructure would support export-oriented activities.

The plan also proposes two types of markets. One will handle wholesale trade under the Gaddiannaram market committee, while the other will focus on exports.

Allegations termed politically motivated

Tummala Nageswara Rao dismissed claims that land would be diverted to private entities. He described such allegations as politically motivated.

He reiterated that the government’s priority remained farmer welfare and agricultural development. Overall, the project aims to promote fruit cultivation and strengthen market access.
