Hyderabad: K. Kavitha on Thursday said the Telangana Jagruti women bill campaign played a key role in building national momentum for the Women’s Reservation Bill.
She stated that sustained efforts by Telangana Jagruti brought the issue into the national spotlight. As a result, political parties across the country began to engage with the demand more actively.
Telangana Jagruti women bill campaign shaped national debate
The Telangana Jagruti women bill initiative included coordinated protests and outreach programmes, particularly in New Delhi. According to Kavitha, these efforts united leaders from 18 political parties and increased pressure on the Centre.
She said the campaign ensured that Members of Parliament raised the issue consistently. Consequently, the demand for women’s reservation gained wider visibility in national politics.
Kavitha described the introduction of the bill as a milestone. However, she criticised the implementation framework proposed by the Centre. She called it “deceptive” and compared it to a “post-dated cheque,” arguing that it delays real benefits for women.
Continued push for women’s representation
Kavitha emphasised that the movement created sustained public awareness. Moreover, it helped keep the issue relevant in political discussions over time.
She added that the organisation’s efforts ensured that the demand for women’s representation remained a priority. Therefore, she said, the contribution of Telangana Jagruti must be recognised in the broader political discourse.
The remarks highlight the continuing debate around the Women’s Reservation Bill and its implementation timeline.
