Bhatti Vikramarka announces power sector employee issues committee

Hyderabad: Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka announced a power sector committee to address concerns raised by electricity department staff.

He made the announcement after holding a meeting with leaders of the Electricity Employees’ Joint Action Committee (JAC) at Praja Bhavan in Hyderabad on Sunday. The discussion focused on employee grievances and the future of power utilities in the state.

During the meeting, JAC leaders expressed concern over speculation regarding privatisation of power distribution companies. In response, Bhatti clarified that the government would not privatise DISCOMs under any circumstances. He urged union leaders to spread awareness and counter misinformation among employees.

Power sector committee to address key demands

Bhatti Vikramarka said the government remains committed to strengthening the energy sector and ensuring stability in power utilities. He added that authorities will take necessary steps to improve operational efficiency and employee welfare.

He emphasised that both officials and employee unions share responsibility in building a robust power sector. At the same time, he directed departments to resolve complaints registered through the 1912 helpline promptly.

The Deputy Chief Minister also announced that senior officials would dedicate one hour every month to interact with employee unions. This step aims to create a structured platform for grievance redressal.

Meanwhile, the JAC submitted a memorandum outlining several demands. These included forming a third DISCOM, employee adjustments, and implementing the 2026 Pay Revision Commission.

In addition, employees requested restoration of the old pension scheme for those recruited up to 2004. They also sought regular promotions, fresh recruitment drives, and solutions to artisan-related issues.

The government is expected to review these demands through the power sector committee and take appropriate decisions in the coming months.
