Telangana launches AI education programme in government schools

Hyderabad: The state government launched an AI education programme in government schools to prepare students for future technology needs.

The School Education Department partnered with Amazon Future Engineer and Pi Jam Foundation for the rollout. Officials said the initiative aims to train nearly 20 lakh students across Telangana.

As part of the programme, authorities distributed 2,000 laptops to Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas, IOE and CURE schools. Secretary Yogita Rana and Director Naveen Nicolas handed over the devices at the MCR HRD Institute.

Officials said the AI education programme would strengthen classroom learning and improve digital infrastructure. Moreover, it aims to equip students with practical technology skills.

The department also introduced a structured curriculum for students from Classes 5 to 9. This curriculum focuses on building foundational understanding of artificial intelligence.

AI education programme expands training and digital learning

Yogita Rana said the AI education programme would help students adapt to a fast-changing world. She added that students must learn not only to use technology but also to understand its applications.

Authorities have trained around 28,000 teachers to implement the programme effectively. In addition, students will receive 20 to 25 hours of AI instruction each year.

Officials said students would access a dedicated digital platform for practice and learning. This platform will help improve outcomes through hands-on experience.

The programme also integrates design thinking, computational thinking and digital citizenship into school education. These elements aim to build critical skills among students.

Officials said the initiative could position Telangana as a leading state in digital education. Senior representatives from Samagra Shiksha and partner organisations attended the launch.
