Hyderabad: T. Harish Rao on Thursday strongly criticised Tejasvi Surya for comparing the creation of Telangana with the India-Pakistan partition.
In a statement, the BRS MLA said the Telangana formation remarks ignored the long and democratic struggle behind the statehood movement. He emphasised that thousands of students, employees, and citizens made sacrifices over several decades.
According to him, such comments reflect a failure to recognise the constitutional process through which Telangana was formed. Therefore, he described the comparison as both insensitive and unacceptable.

Harish Rao said the Telangana formation remarks distort the history of the movement. He explained that the state emerged after sustained public mobilisation and democratic procedures.
Moreover, he stated that equating Telangana’s formation with a historical partition undermines the emotional and political significance of the struggle. In addition, he warned that people would strongly oppose any attempt to misrepresent the movement.

Demand for BJP clarification on remarks
Harish Rao demanded an immediate response from the BJP leadership. He urged the party to clarify whether the remarks reflect its official position.

He also reiterated that Telangana was formed through a constitutional process approved by Parliament. Consequently, he said any attempt to belittle it would not be accepted by the people.
