Government assures fuel supply stability amid West Asia tensions

New Delhi: The Government of India assured fuel supply stability amid the evolving situation in West Asia, stating that LPG, PNG and petrol supplies remain uninterrupted across the country.

Officials said domestic LPG deliveries continued as normal, with over 50.5 lakh cylinders delivered on April 16. Moreover, they urged citizens to avoid panic buying and rely only on official information.

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas said it ensured 100 percent supply to domestic LPG, PNG and CNG segments. In addition, authorities increased refinery output and adjusted booking intervals to manage demand.

Officials added that enforcement teams intensified inspections to curb hoarding and black marketing. PSU oil companies imposed penalties on 255 LPG distributors and suspended 65 distributorships.

Authorities said more than 2,900 raids were conducted nationwide to prevent irregularities. Furthermore, control rooms and monitoring committees were set up across states to track supply conditions.

Since March 2026, about 4.68 lakh PNG connections were activated, while 5.23 lakh new consumers registered. Officials also encouraged people to adopt alternative fuels such as PNG and electric cooking.

Meanwhile, the government confirmed that maritime operations remained stable despite tensions in the Gulf region. Over 2,447 Indian seafarers were safely repatriated, including 30 in the past 24 hours.

The Ministry of External Affairs said it continued to assist Indian nationals through missions and control rooms. Flights from several countries remained operational, ensuring connectivity to India.

Separately, the government announced that the first batch of Haj pilgrims would depart on April 18. A total of 1,75,025 pilgrims are expected to undertake the pilgrimage this year.
