India technology sovereignty push highlighted by Jitendra Singh

New Delhi: Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh on Sunday called for India technology sovereignty, urging the country to lead in critical and emerging technologies to secure its global position.

He addressed the PAN-IIT Alumni Conference in Los Angeles through a virtual platform. The event brought together global technology leaders, entrepreneurs, researchers, and investors from the IIT alumni network.

According to him, India must move beyond being a technology consumer. Instead, it should become a creator and global driver of innovation. He said technological capability would define national strength in the coming decades.

Moreover, he linked this vision to the goal of Viksit Bharat by 2047. He noted that science, technology, and innovation would form the base of future growth. In addition, he cited progress in space, biotechnology, and deep-tech startups as key indicators.

India technology sovereignty linked to emerging sectors

The Minister highlighted the role of the Indian diaspora, especially IIT alumni. He described them as vital connectors between India and global innovation ecosystems. Furthermore, he said their contributions include investments, mentorship, and policy engagement.

He acknowledged the role of IITs in building India’s technology leadership. Their alumni, he said, lead global firms and drive advanced research. Therefore, he called for identifying the next frontier of growth.

Dr. Jitendra Singh pointed to semiconductors, artificial intelligence, robotics, and quantum technologies as strategic sectors. He said these domains were critical for national security, economic resilience, and global competitiveness.

He also stressed stronger collaboration between academia, industry, and government. Additionally, he highlighted new education models to support innovation and institution-building.

Referring to the Sajjan Agarwal School of Technology at Rishihood University, he said such initiatives reflect diaspora support. They also show a focus on linking education with real-world applications and entrepreneurship.

The Minister called for stronger partnerships across sectors. He invited IIT alumni to engage in mentoring and investing in research. He also urged collaboration with Indian institutions to strengthen innovation capacity.

He expressed confidence that India would achieve developed nation status by 2047. At the same time, he said the country would contribute significantly to global progress.
