Hyderabad: BRS MLA Kaushik Reddy on Wednesday alleged a conspiracy behind the Karimnagar attack on the government camp office allotted to Karimnagar MLA Gangula Kamalakar and blamed BJP leaders for the violence.
Political tension escalated after Union Minister Bandi Sanjay questioned whether BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao was ready for drug tests. In response, Kaushik Reddy alleged that Bandi Sanjay consumed drugs mixed with tobacco.
Soon after the remarks, BJP workers gathered near the camp office and allegedly tried to attack the premises. Protesters later entered the office and damaged vehicles and furniture.
Kaushik Reddy claimed he had alerted officials earlier about possible threats to his life. He also alleged that some protesters carried sticks, knives and petrol bombs during the incident.
Karimnagar attack triggers law and order questions
The BRS MLA questioned why police failed to prevent the violence despite rising political tension in Karimnagar. He said he only reacted to remarks made against KTR and denied provoking the incident intentionally.
Kaushik Reddy further stated that he was ready to apologise publicly if anyone proved that he had deliberately incited the violence. He also questioned public safety if elected representatives could not receive proper protection.
According to the MLA, the incident exposed political coordination between Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Union Minister Bandi Sanjay.
