Aadhaar App downloads cross 21 million in three months

New Delhi: Aadhaar App downloads crossed 21 million within three months of launch, reflecting strong public adoption of the government’s digital identity platform, according to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.

Officials said the Aadhaar App downloads increased rapidly as users adopted paperless identity sharing and online update services. The application allows Aadhaar holders to manage identity-related services directly through mobile devices.

The government stated that more than 28 lakh people updated their mobile numbers through the Aadhaar App. In addition, nearly six lakh users completed address updates using the platform.

The Aadhaar App offers several digital features, including face verification, biometric lock and unlock, authentication history and QR-based contact sharing. Officials said the app was designed to improve privacy, consent control and selective sharing of personal information.

The ministry noted that the platform supports secure digital verification without the need for physical documents. As a result, users can access identity services more conveniently from any location.

Aadhaar App downloads rise with digital identity services

Officials said the Aadhaar App supports multiple day-to-day use cases across sectors. These include hotel check-ins, hospital admissions, event entries and visitor management through QR-based verification systems.

The platform also helps organisations verify gig workers and service partners through digital identity authentication. Moreover, users can share editable contact details through QR codes instead of printed visiting cards.

The government said the growing Aadhaar App downloads reflected increasing trust in digital public infrastructure and mobile-based governance services. It added that the application was helping improve ease of living by reducing paperwork and simplifying access to identity verification.

Officials further stated that the app was built with a privacy-first approach to ensure secure handling of personal information. They said the Aadhaar App would continue to support wider adoption of paperless digital services across the country.
