Hyderabad: BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao alleged that Kakatiya temple damage took place near Warangal and accused the Congress government of failing to protect Telangana’s historical heritage.
In a post on X on Friday, KTR claimed that officials damaged an 800-year-old Shiva temple near Ashok Nagar in Khanapur mandal of Warangal district. He said the temple was built during the rule of the Kakatiya dynasty centuries ago.
KTR criticised the state administration and alleged that it lacked understanding of Telangana’s history, culture and identity. He termed the alleged Kakatiya temple damage unfortunate and demanded immediate action from the authorities.
The BRS leader also alleged that the government had already demolished houses and cut down large numbers of trees during development works in several areas. According to KTR, historical structures were now also facing damage because of official actions.
He urged the administration to immediately stop all alleged activities near the temple site. He also demanded restoration work at the Shiva temple without delay.
Kakatiya temple damage sparks heritage concerns
KTR said Telangana’s historical heritage and cultural identity required strong protection. He stressed that historical structures linked to the Kakatiya period carried major cultural and historical value for the state.
He further alleged that unchecked development activity was affecting important heritage sites across Telangana. The BRS leader said authorities should balance infrastructure projects with the preservation of ancient monuments and temples.
The remarks triggered fresh political criticism over heritage conservation in Telangana. The issue also sparked debate between political parties over the protection of historical structures and cultural landmarks in the state.
Meanwhile, KTR reiterated that the government should prioritise restoration measures and prevent further damage near the temple premises.
