Hyderabad: Civil Supplies Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy directed district collectors to speed up procurement operations for paddy and maize across Telangana. He issued the instructions during a video conference with Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and other ministers. The meeting reviewed the status of procurement across districts.
He told officials to immediately report challenges in their areas. In addition, he assured full government support to resolve issues affecting procurement operations. He stressed the need for smooth coordination between departments.
The minister said the government would extend all required assistance. Therefore, collectors must ensure timely handling of grain arrivals. He emphasized that delays should be avoided to protect farmers’ interests.
Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao also attended the video conference. He said the government was procuring paddy on a large scale under the Chief Minister’s leadership. Moreover, he noted that some farmers from neighbouring states were bringing paddy into Telangana procurement centres.
He said this inflow was creating operational difficulties in certain districts. Consequently, officials were instructed to take preventive steps. They must prevent the movement of paddy from other states into Telangana centres.
Procurement operations to be completed by end of May
Officials directed district administrations to intensify procurement operations and complete the process by the end of May. They were asked to monitor centres closely and avoid disruptions. Furthermore, they must coordinate with field staff to ensure efficiency.
The government reiterated that it stands ready to support districts. However, officials must act promptly and maintain discipline at procurement centres. The ministers emphasized accountability and timely completion of work.
Uttam Kumar Reddy reiterated that the state will provide full backing to ensure successful procurement operations. He concluded that farmers’ welfare remains the top priority and instructed departments to work in close coordination.
