Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy urged the Centre to speed up implementation of the BharatNet programme in Telangana during a video conference with Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia.
The Chief Minister discussed expansion of high-speed broadband connectivity in rural Telangana through the amended BharatNet programme. He requested the Union government to complete agreement formalities quickly and release pending funds without delay.
Minister D. Sridhar Babu also participated in the discussions related to implementation of the T-Fiber project under the revised framework.
Revanth Reddy asked the Centre to formulate a clear policy for transferring mandal-to-gram panchayat ring network systems to the Digital Bharat Nidhi framework. According to officials, the proposal aims to strengthen digital infrastructure in rural areas.
Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia reportedly assured full cooperation from the Central government for the project’s implementation.
Officials said the discussions focused on Telangana’s plan to provide quality high-speed internet access to villages and households across the state. The government believes improved broadband infrastructure would help strengthen digital governance and public services.
The Telangana government also proposed establishing a Special Purpose Vehicle under the BharatNet programme to sign agreements with the Centre and manage implementation activities.
BharatNet programme linked to T-Fiber expansion plans
Officials stated that Telangana planned to expand the T-Fiber network through an integrated digital policy connecting every gram panchayat through ring architecture.
According to the government, the ring network system would ensure uninterrupted services because alternative routes would remain active if one connection failed.
During the first phase, authorities plan to restore damaged digital connectivity infrastructure in 3,089 villages located in the undivided Nizamabad, Rangareddy and Khammam districts.
Officials said the amended BharatNet programme would help Telangana develop future-ready fibre infrastructure for long-term rural connectivity needs.
The state government expects the initiative to improve internet access, support digital education and strengthen online delivery of government services in remote regions.
Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao, Chief Minister’s Special Secretary B. Ajith Reddy, IT Department Joint Secretary D. Anudeep and other senior officials attended the video conference.
