New Delhi: UIDAI recognised the winners of its Biometric SDK challenge for face and iris modalities in collaboration with IIIT Hyderabad. The authority announced the results after detailed performance assessments of competing biometric solutions from global technology providers.
The Face and Iris Age Variance Challenges took place between December 2025 and February 2026. A total of 531 registrations were received across both challenges. The initiative followed the successful completion of UIDAI’s earlier fingerprint benchmarking exercise.
Innovatrics from Slovakia secured the top position in the face challenge. IDBio from the United States finished second, while Neurotechnology from Lithuania secured third place. In the iris challenge, IDBio achieved the first rank. Neurotechnology secured the second position and Innovatrics finished third.
The competition also saw participation from Indian companies and academic institutions, including Perfios, Ooru and IIIT Hyderabad.
Child datasets played key role in Biometric SDK challenge
UIDAI conducted the assessments using large anonymised datasets in a controlled testing environment. A major feature of the exercise was the use of long-term biometric records of children aged between 5 and 10 years. Each sample had a five-year gap, which helped evaluate how accurately the systems performed as children grew.
The authority stated that this was a unique global challenge because such datasets addressed real-world issues related to maintaining biometric identity across age variations among children.
Furthermore, the initiative supports UIDAI’s efforts to strengthen indigenous Biometric SDK solutions and promote advanced biometric research. The challenges aimed to identify reliable one-to-one face and iris matching systems developed by leading organisations from India and abroad.
UIDAI recognised the best-performing participants and appreciated all competitors for their contributions to innovation in the biometric ecosystem.
