Hyderabad: Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy rejected Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s allegation that he had obstructed Metro Phase-2. He said the Central Government had consistently supported Telangana’s development and had already agreed in principle to a 50:50 funding model for the project.
Addressing the media in New Delhi, Kishan Reddy described the Chief Minister’s remarks as baseless. He said the Centre had contributed Rs.1,250 crore to Metro Phase-1 and remained committed to expanding urban transport infrastructure in Hyderabad.
The Union Minister said development projects do not depend on any individual. He added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Central Government and the BJP had demonstrated their commitment to Telangana through continued investments and policy support.
Kishan Reddy accused the state government of making political statements despite receiving assistance from the Centre. He highlighted national highway projects worth Rs.1.75 lakh crore, the Kakatiya Mega Textile Park, MMTS Phase-2 and the modernization of 42 railway stations.
Centre reiterates support for Metro Phase-2
Kishan Reddy said he had written several letters to the Telangana government urging it to move ahead with the project. He stressed that both governments should resolve technical and financial issues through discussion and cooperation.
Referring to the role of the Indian Railway Finance Corporation, he said the Telangana government had already entered agreements for project financing. He added that the Centre had suggested repayment mechanisms, including the use of metro revenues.
The Union Minister also cited support for the Zaheerabad Industrial Corridor and the Musi River rejuvenation programme. He said the Centre had extended assistance across sectors including transport, industry and infrastructure.
Reaffirming the BJP’s position, Kishan Reddy said the party does not believe in delaying development works. He said the Centre would continue to cooperate with initiatives that contribute to Telangana’s growth and progress.
