New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted India’s Human-centric AI vision while addressing the Outreach Session on “Ensuring a Safe, Rapid and Efficient Rollout of Artificial Intelligence” at the G7 Summit in Evian, France.
The Prime Minister said artificial intelligence has the potential to transform human civilisation. However, he stressed that the technology must empower people and serve the larger public good.
Modi referred to India’s recent AI Impact Summit and said the country promotes a Human-centric AI approach. According to him, AI development must rest on the principles of inclusivity, security and public welfare.
He also said India views cyberspace as a global public good. Therefore, democratic nations should have access to AI models that can protect critical information infrastructure and counter cyber threats.
Human-centric AI requires global cooperation and safeguards
The Prime Minister called for an integrated approach that balances safety, speed and efficiency. Moreover, he outlined four key measures to guide future AI development.
First, he said developers should build AI systems with safety features from the beginning. Second, countries should adopt common standards, testing frameworks and regulatory guidelines for AI deployment.
Third, Modi called for stronger global cooperation to tackle deepfakes, misinformation and cyber fraud. In addition, he stressed that nations must work together to address emerging digital risks.
Fourth, he said the benefits of Human-centric AI should reach countries in the Global South. As a result, AI can support more inclusive and equitable global development.
Concluding his address, Modi said AI should expand human potential, strengthen human choice and protect human dignity. He added that India would continue working with international partners to advance these objectives.
