New Delhi: A special labour case disposal drive launched by the Ministry of Labour and Employment resolved 23 long-pending claims involving Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and its contractors, resulting in the disbursement of ₹10.32 lakh to 12 workers in New Delhi.
The consolidated hearing took place before the Regional Labour Commissioner (Central), New Delhi-cum-Authority under the Code on Wages, 2019, at the Office of the Deputy Chief Labour Commissioner (Central). The initiative forms part of a nationwide effort to speed up the resolution of pending labour disputes and improve access to justice for workers.
Chief Labour Commissioner (Central) Sonal Mishra attended the proceedings and addressed labour officials, management representatives and workers. She stressed the need for timely settlement of disputes and strict compliance with labour laws to ensure quicker relief for employees.
During the hearing, authorities examined 193 claim cases. While 23 cases reached settlement, officials conducted substantive hearings in the remaining matters. As a result, many of those cases are expected to move towards resolution on the next scheduled date.
Labour case disposal drive focuses on compliance
Officials also sensitised DMRC representatives and contractors on labour law compliance. They highlighted the importance of timely wage payments, proper maintenance of statutory records and protection of workers’ rights.
In response, management representatives assured labour authorities that they would implement corrective measures to strengthen compliance and improve workplace practices.
The Ministry said the labour case disposal initiative reflects its commitment to timely grievance redressal, stronger enforcement of labour laws and harmonious industrial relations. It added that the drive aims to ensure faster dispute resolution while safeguarding the rights and interests of workers.
