Hyderabad: BRS MLC Dr. Sravan Dasoju on Tuesday praised Justice Raghunandan Rao for his farewell speech, saying it reflected the true spirit of the Indian Constitution and reaffirmed the judiciary’s duty to protect the rights of ordinary citizens.
In a statement, Dasoju said the retired Andhra Pradesh High Court judge had demonstrated through his words and judicial career that courts exist to uphold the rule of law rather than serve the interests of governments. He described the farewell address as a guiding message for the judiciary and public institutions.
Dasoju recalled Justice Raghunandan Rao’s academic journey from Hyderabad Public School to Osmania University before beginning a legal career that spanned more than three decades. He said the judge earned respect as a Senior Counsel through his legal knowledge, clear arguments and commitment to justice.

According to Dasoju, Justice Raghunandan Rao delivered more than 25,000 judgments during his tenure on the Bench. He said the judge consistently upheld integrity, honesty and constitutional principles while discharging his judicial responsibilities.
Quoting from the farewell address, Dasoju highlighted Justice Raghunandan Rao’s observation that judicial powers exist to protect justice and safeguard the rights of common citizens rather than benefit those in authority. He said the message had resonated widely because it reflected the constitutional responsibilities of the judiciary.
Dasoju also praised the judge’s humility and public service despite his privileged background. He described him as a jurist who combined legal excellence with compassion for ordinary people and remained committed to ethical values throughout his career.
Expressing his best wishes, Dasoju prayed for Justice Raghunandan Rao’s good health, long life and happiness after retirement. He also expressed hope that the retired judge would continue contributing to public life by defending constitutional values and protecting the rights of disadvantaged sections of society.
