VB-G RAM G Act comes into force with 125-day rural job guarantee

Hyderabad: The VB-G RAM G Act came into force across India on Tuesday. It gives eligible rural households a legal right to 125 days of wage employment every year.

The Centre said the law will strengthen rural livelihoods. It also aims to improve transparency and create durable community assets.

Moreover, the government notified revised wage rates under the Act. As a result, no daily wage will be below ₹300.

The national average wage has increased from ₹298.8 to ₹327.4 per day. Therefore, workers will receive an average hike of more than 10 percent.

Union Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan described the rollout as a historic milestone. He said the Act would strengthen livelihoods and support women-led development. He added that it would accelerate the vision of a developed rural India.

Revised wages and rollout under VB-G RAM G Act

Meanwhile, the Centre released an interim allocation of ₹95,692.31 crore. The funds will support employment generation and timely wage payments. They will also help execute development works without interruption.

Additionally, several states received higher wage rates. These include Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh. Wage increases range between 15 and 25 percent.

Chouhan said the Centre and states completed all preparations. He added that every eligible rural worker should receive employment without delay.

Further, the government will hold the national launch on July 2. The event will take place at Mukkavaripalle village in Tirupati district, Andhra Pradesh.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will attend the programme. Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan will also participate. Union ministers and senior officials are expected to join the event.

The programme will distribute Rural Employment Guarantee Cards. It will also launch the VB-G RAM G software platform. Moreover, officials will release publications and interact with beneficiaries. Finally, they will inaugurate initiatives supporting the Act’s nationwide implementation.
