New Delhi: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has enabled a free Aadhaar email update service through the Aadhaar App, allowing residents to add or update their email ID without visiting an Aadhaar enrolment centre.
The service became available on July 1 and will remain free for six months. UIDAI said the initiative aims to improve convenience by allowing users to update their Aadhaar details directly through their smartphones.
Within the first two days of the launch, more than 2.5 lakh residents updated their email addresses using the Aadhaar App. The authority said the strong response reflects growing adoption of its digital services.
Linking an email address with Aadhaar enables users to receive real-time notifications whenever Aadhaar authentication takes place. As a result, residents can monitor the use of their Aadhaar and receive an additional layer of security and transparency.
Aadhaar email update expands digital services
The Aadhaar App already allows users to update their mobile numbers and addresses without visiting a physical Aadhaar centre. According to UIDAI, more than 40 lakh people have updated their mobile numbers through the app, while nearly 10 lakh residents have completed address updates.
Furthermore, UIDAI urged Aadhaar holders to take advantage of the new email update facility during the six-month free period. Officials said the initiative supports the Digital India programme by making essential public services more accessible and user-friendly.
The authority added that the Aadhaar App continues to simplify identity management through secure digital services. By reducing the need for physical visits, the platform improves ease of living while supporting the government’s vision of a digitally empowered society.
Residents can access the new feature by downloading or updating the Aadhaar App on Android or Apple iOS devices. UIDAI said the service will help more users keep their Aadhaar records accurate while improving communication through email alerts.
The authority expects wider adoption of the facility as more residents become aware of the free service, which complements other digital update features already available on the Aadhaar App.
