Canada invites Telangana delegation to strengthen trade ties

Hyderabad: Canada Telangana trade cooperation moved forward after Canada’s High Commissioner to India, Chris Cooter, invited Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to lead a Telangana business delegation to Canada to strengthen investment and economic partnerships.

Cooter met the Chief Minister at MCR HRD Institute in Hyderabad on Wednesday. Both leaders discussed expanding cooperation in trade, investment and innovation across key sectors. They also reviewed opportunities in infrastructure projects, including the Musi River Development Project, Hyderabad Metro Rail expansion and the proposed Future City initiative.

The Canadian envoy highlighted Canada’s growing investments in Telangana. He referred to Firan Technology Group’s decision to establish a manufacturing facility and Global Capability Centre in Hyderabad through IDC. He also noted CPP Investments’ strategic partnership with Hyderabad-based CtrlS Datacenters, with a commitment of up to one billion Canadian dollars.

Revanth Reddy highlighted Telangana’s progress in information technology, life sciences, defence and aerospace. He also said Hyderabad had emerged as a preferred destination for Global Capability Centres of Fortune 500 companies.

Canada Telangana trade discussions cover education and green economy

The Chief Minister said the government remained committed to rejuvenating the Musi River as part of a larger urban development plan. He also sought Canada’s support for Telangana’s solarisation programme and other green economy initiatives.

Meanwhile, Revanth Reddy said several international universities planned to establish campuses in Hyderabad. He proposed partnerships between Canadian and Indian universities to strengthen higher education collaboration.

Furthermore, he invited Canadian companies, investors and academic institutions to participate in the second Telangana Global Investors Summit, scheduled for December. He said the event would create fresh opportunities for investment and long-term partnerships.

Cooter praised Telangana’s development vision and employment-focused policies. He said the state’s skilled workforce created strong opportunities for Canadian businesses. He also assured Canada’s continued support across multiple sectors and announced that a Canadian trade delegation would visit Telangana in the coming months to explore cooperation in energy, urbanisation, defence and aerospace.

Senior officials, including Special Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao, Invest Telangana CEO Ajith Reddy, TGIIC Managing Director Vishnuvardhan Reddy and Industries Department officials, attended the meeting.
