Hyderabad: BRS MLC Dr. Dasoju Sravan on Monday alleged that the Congress government had mismanaged Telangana’s finances, citing the latest CAG report Telangana to claim that the state recorded a revenue deficit of ₹12,289.38 crore during the first quarter of the 2026-27 financial year.
Addressing a press conference, Sravan said the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report contradicted the government’s budget projections. He alleged that the state had projected a revenue surplus of ₹6,857.76 crore for 2026-27 but instead reported a large revenue deficit within the first three months.
According to the BRS leader, the government borrowed ₹21,919.23 crore between April and June. He claimed this amounted to 37.5% of the state’s annual borrowing limit of ₹58,458.71 crore. He also alleged that Telangana recorded a primary deficit of ₹14,141.05 crore during the quarter.

Sravan claimed the state’s revenue collections fell short of budget estimates across several sectors. According to him, total revenue receipts reached only 17% of the annual target, while tax revenue stood at 21%. He further alleged that GST collections, stamp duty receipts, sales tax collections, excise revenue, non-tax revenue and Central grants all remained below expected levels during the first quarter.
Moreover, the BRS MLC alleged irregularities in liquor revenue collection, illegal sand mining and real estate transactions. He demanded a high-level investigation into the alleged diversion of excise revenue. In addition, he accused the government of failing to secure adequate Central grants despite repeated visits to New Delhi.
Sravan also alleged that several welfare promises, including Rythu Bharosa, enhanced pensions, unemployment allowance and job creation commitments, remained unfulfilled. Therefore, he urged the government to release a White Paper detailing the state’s financial position, borrowings, liquor revenue and sand revenue. The state government had not responded to these allegations at the time of issuing the press note.
