APEDA facilitates first millet food export shipment to New Zealand

New Delhi: APEDA has facilitated the first-ever sea shipment of botanical-infused millet functional foods from Karnataka to New Zealand, opening a new export market for India’s value-added millet products.

The consignment left India on June 3. Bengaluru-based Infini Agrotek LLP shipped one metric tonne of ready-to-cook millet functional foods to New Zealand.

The shipment marked a significant milestone for India’s agri-food exports. It also highlighted growing global demand for innovative millet-based products developed from traditional Indian grains.

APEDA said the exporter secured the order after participating in several trade promotion events. The company took part in World Food India 2025, Indus Food 2025 and Gulfood 2026. These platforms helped the exporter connect with international buyers and expand its market reach.

APEDA Chairman Abhishek Dev virtually flagged off the shipment. He congratulated the company for developing innovative millet products and successfully entering a new international market.

Millet food export creates opportunities for farmers

During the interaction, APEDA encouraged the exporter to continue using its export promotion programmes. Officials also advised the company to participate in more trade fairs and business exhibitions to explore additional markets.

The millet food export is expected to create stronger demand for millet crops. Higher demand could improve market access and income opportunities for millet-growing farmers across India.

Officials said value-added agricultural products play an important role in strengthening India’s agri-export ecosystem. They also generate opportunities for processors, exporters and other stakeholders across the supply chain.

APEDA continues to support agricultural exports through market development initiatives, capacity-building programmes and international trade events. The successful shipment reflects growing global acceptance of Indian millet products.

Millets have become an important part of India’s agricultural export basket. Their nutritional value, climate resilience and rising popularity among consumers have increased demand in overseas markets. Industry experts believe value-added millet products will support the diversification and expansion of India’s agri-food exports in the coming years.
