New Delhi: Bharat Taxi has registered 7.76 lakh drivers and 40.84 lakh customers as the cooperative-based ride-hailing platform expands its services in phases across the country, the government informed the Lok Sabha on Monday.
Union Minister for Home and Cooperation Amit Shah said Bharat Taxi currently operates in Delhi-NCR and Gujarat through Sahkar Taxi Cooperative Limited. The platform includes a driver application, a passenger application and a backend management system. The cooperative is also onboarding drivers, registering customers, verifying documents and conducting training before expanding services.
Meanwhile, the minister said the rollout in additional states and cities will depend on operational preparedness, driver availability, statutory approvals and coordination with state governments, cooperative institutions and other stakeholders.
Bharat Taxi expansion follows phased rollout
According to the government, Sahkar Taxi Cooperative Limited begins operations only after completing statutory and administrative formalities. In addition, it obtains the required licences, registrations and permissions under the applicable legal framework before launching services.
Before entering a new state, the cooperative consults the Transport Department, Urban Local Bodies and the Department of Cooperation, wherever required. Furthermore, it completes driver onboarding and public awareness campaigns before starting operations in a city.
The government said Bharat Taxi also uses its official social media platforms and local outreach programmes to create public awareness about its services. Finally, Amit Shah said the cooperative will continue expanding the platform according to its implementation plan and operational requirements.
