CAQM enforcement actions reviewed as 25 resumption orders issued across NCR
New Delhi: The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) reviewed its CAQM enforcement actions across the National Capital Region (NCR) and said 25 resumption orders had been issued after compliance verification during its 135th Enforcement Task Force (ETF) meeting.
The meeting, held on July 20, examined enforcement activities carried out between July 1 and July 13. During the 14-day period, the Commission’s Flying Squads conducted 175 inspections. These covered 17 construction and demolition sites, 90 industrial units and 68 diesel generator (DG) set-related inspections.
Based on reported violations, authorities proposed the closure of one project or industry. They also recommended sealing 19 DG sets, issuing nine compliance directions and imposing environmental compensation in four cases.
The ETF reviewed decisions taken during its previous meeting and noted that all actionable cases involving industries, construction and demolition activities, and DG sets had been addressed by the concerned agencies. Of the 25 resumption orders issued after compliance checks, two were in Delhi, 11 in Haryana, 10 in Uttar Pradesh and two in Rajasthan.
Ghaziabad road redevelopment meets CAQM enforcement actions framework
The Commission also reviewed the overall CAQM enforcement actions as of July 20. It noted that Flying Squads had inspected 27,925 units, projects and entities since the enforcement drive began.
Following these inspections, authorities issued 1,803 closure directions. They later granted 1,446 resumption orders after verifying compliance. Meanwhile, 126 cases were transferred to State Pollution Control Boards and the Delhi Pollution Control Committee for final decisions. Another 231 entities remained under examination for possible resumption orders.
The ETF also assessed road redevelopment works carried out by Ghaziabad Nagar Nigam under the Commission’s Standard Framework. Inspectors covered 42 road stretches spanning about nine kilometres, all with a right of way of less than 10 metres.
The inspection found every road stretch fully paved from end to end. The Commission said the works fully complied with its Standard Framework. It urged all road-owning agencies across Delhi-NCR to adopt the framework for ongoing and future projects to reduce road dust over the long term.
The Commission also called for stronger enforcement, quicker compliance verification and better coordination among implementing agencies. It asked authorities to improve inspection efficiency, ensure accountability and speed up action against violations involving industries, DG sets and construction activities.
