Hyderabad: Union Minister G Kishan Reddy said on Tuesday that Centre priority women empowerment remained central to governance, with focused efforts on employment, skill training, and financial inclusion under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He was speaking at a certificate distribution programme for women trained by the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Foundation at NI-MSME in Rahmath Nagar. He said the government aimed to make every woman self-reliant by aligning welfare schemes with economic opportunities.
Reddy said Centre priority women empowerment was visible across sectors, ranging from financial access to advanced technology. He pointed out that the Jan Dhan Yojana enabled over 55 crore people, including large numbers of low-income women, to open bank accounts and access formal banking.
Schemes reflect Centre priority women empowerment across sectors
The minister highlighted initiatives such as Drone Didi, Lakhpati Didi, and collateral-free loans for street vendors. He added that credit limits for women-led self-help groups rose from ₹50,000 to ₹20 lakh. Moreover, proposals were under consideration to increase the cap to ₹50 lakh.
He said more women were now entering sectors once seen as male-dominated. These included mining, space-linked services, and information technology. He described this shift as “revolutionary,” especially in areas such as Hitech City, where women play a key role in the IT workforce.
To strengthen outreach, Reddy proposed using community halls in urban slums as skill training centres. He also praised women who completed training despite financial and social constraints.
Reddy linked Centre priority women empowerment to Prime Minister Modi’s background, saying policies reflected empathy for disadvantaged communities. He added that the approach continued the legacy of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
He also cited welfare measures such as free LPG connections, construction of four crore houses, and health coverage of ₹5 lakh per family under Ayushman Bharat.
Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma, who attended the event, said the government had strengthened self-help groups. He added that when women gained financial independence, families and communities progressed. He urged women to acquire skills and lead social change.
