CNG prices rise fourth time since May 15

New Delhi: CNG prices increased across the country on Monday after authorities announced the fourth rate hike since May 15, pushing cumulative increases to Rs 6 per kg within 11 days.

Authorities raised compressed natural gas rates in Delhi by Rs 2 per kg. Following the latest revision, prices in the national capital reached Rs 83.09 per kg.

Companies had earlier increased rates by Rs 2 on May 15, followed by hikes of Rs 1 each on May 18 and May 23.

The repeated revisions came a day after petrol and diesel prices also increased across the country.

Transport operators and commuters expressed concern over the rising fuel burden on public and personal travel expenses.

Officials said higher fuel costs could affect transportation charges and operating expenses in several sectors.

CNG prices expected to affect transport fares

The latest increase is likely to raise operating costs for auto-rickshaw drivers, cab operators and commercial transport services using CNG vehicles.

Transport operators may revise auto and taxi fares following the continued increase in rates.

Daily commuters and office employees who depend on public transport services are expected to face additional expenses.

Traders also fear that higher transport costs could increase prices of essential commodities in local markets.

Meanwhile, rising petrol and diesel rates have already added financial pressure on vehicle owners across the country.

Consumers are now witnessing increased fuel expenses across multiple sectors, including public transport and household travel.
