New Delhi: Digi Yatra platform achieved a major Digi Yatra milestone by enabling more than 10 crore passenger journeys across 38 airports, the Ministry of Civil Aviation announced on Friday. The platform has also recorded over 2.4 crore downloads on Android and iOS devices.
Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu said the achievement reflected growing passenger trust in seamless and paperless travel. He noted that Digi Yatra has become an important part of India’s digital aviation ecosystem.
According to the Ministry, Digi Yatra reduced average airport entry time from 15 seconds to about five seconds per passenger. Consequently, airports improved passenger movement, reduced congestion and lowered manual verification requirements.
The platform verifies passengers through facial recognition technology. It removes repeated document checks and reduces the need for physical boarding passes. As a result, airports process travellers more efficiently.
The initiative also supports environmental sustainability. By reducing paper use, it saves thousands of sheets every day across participating airports.
Ram Mohan Naidu said daily domestic passenger traffic remained below two lakh in 2014. However, it crossed five lakh on several occasions during the last three years. He added that annual passenger traffic could reach 50 crore by 2030 and nearly 100 crore by 2040.
Digi Yatra milestone drives nationwide expansion
The Minister said Digi Yatra currently operates at 38 airports. Authorities will extend the platform to 27 more airports next year.
He also confirmed that the upcoming airports at Navi Mumbai, Jewar and Bhogapuram will start operations with Digi Yatra facilities in place.
The government is expanding language support to improve accessibility. The platform currently supports 11 languages. Moreover, authorities plan to add 11 more regional languages before the end of the year.
Officials said passenger privacy remains a core feature of the system. The platform stores encrypted data on users’ devices. It shares the information only for a limited period with the departure airport for verification.
The Ministry said Digi Yatra forms part of a wider digital aviation strategy. The initiative includes self-baggage drop facilities, upgraded air traffic control systems, AI-powered airport tools and the AirSewa grievance platform. These measures aim to make air travel faster, smoother and more convenient.
