New Delhi: Union Labour and Employment Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya on Tuesday inaugurated the ESIC OPD Block at ESIC Hospital, Sanathnagar, saying the new facility will provide modern healthcare services to more than 12.3 lakh insured persons and beneficiaries across Telangana.
The new block was built at a cost of ₹211.13 crore. It will serve beneficiaries from Hyderabad, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Sangareddy, Ranga Reddy and Mahabubnagar districts. In addition, the medical college and hospital will cater to insured persons from across the State.
Dr. Mandaviya said Shram Shakti and Yuva Shakti remain the two pillars of nation-building. He added that workers deserve dignity, respect and strong social security. According to him, “Seva” and “Samman” for the nation’s workforce remain central to the government’s approach.
ESIC OPD Block strengthens healthcare services
The Minister said ESIC beneficiaries have increased from about 7.5 crore a decade ago to more than 15 crore. Moreover, he said India’s social security coverage has expanded from 19% in 2014 to over 64% today, covering nearly 94 crore people, according to International Labour Organization estimates.
He highlighted major welfare measures, including free food grains for over 80 crore beneficiaries and more than four crore pucca houses for eligible families. He also said the four Labour Codes replaced 29 labour laws with a simpler and worker-focused framework.
The Minister said the new labour framework provides mandatory appointment letters, annual health check-ups for workers above 40 years, equal wages for men and women and gratuity after one year of service. Further, he urged employers and workers to strengthen industrial harmony and contribute to a developed India.
ESIC OPD Block adds advanced medical facilities
Dr. Mandaviya honoured construction workers who built the new facility. He also distributed cash benefits to ESI beneficiaries during the event.
The ESIC OPD Block has a built-up area of 43,611.04 square metres. It houses outpatient departments for major medical specialties, AYUSH services, radiology, rehabilitation and yoga. Besides, it includes 180 general beds, 25 ICU beds, 20 NICU beds, medical stores and a clinical lecture theatre.
The Minister said the new facility would improve healthcare access for workers and reinforce the government’s commitment to their welfare.
