Hyderabad: Telangana Rakshana Sena president Kalvakuntla Kavitha on Thursday staged a protest near the Secretariat demanding immediate government action over the grain purchase issue in Telangana.
Kavitha and party workers accused officials of deducting excess weight during grain procurement and demanded justice for farmers facing delays in the purchase process. Protesters also raised slogans near the Secretariat and intensified their agitation over procurement-related problems reported from different districts.
Police intervened after Kavitha and Telangana Rakshana Sena activists organised a dharna at the protest site. Subsequently, officials detained Kavitha along with several party leaders and workers before shifting them from the area.
The protest drew attention to growing concerns among farmers regarding procurement delays and deductions during grain purchases. Party workers alleged that such practices were causing financial losses to cultivators during the procurement season.
Meanwhile, political activity around the grain purchase issue has intensified in recent weeks as opposition leaders continued targeting the state government over procurement management.
Grain purchase issue gains political attention in Telangana
Kavitha recently launched her new political outfit under the TRS name following her suspension from the BRS. Since then, she has organised several protests and media interactions on public and farmer-related concerns across Telangana.
Political observers noted that Kavitha was attempting to strengthen her public outreach through issue-based agitations and direct engagement with farmers and local groups.
During the latest protest, Telangana Rakshana Sena workers demanded transparent procurement procedures and immediate clearance of pending grain purchases. In addition, they urged authorities to prevent unfair deductions during weighing at procurement centres.
The protest near the Secretariat briefly created tension before police personnel shifted the demonstrators from the area. However, party leaders stated that they would continue agitations until the government addressed farmers’ concerns linked to the grain purchase issue.
Officials did not immediately issue a detailed response regarding the allegations raised during the protest.
