New Delhi: GRAP Stage-I revoked across the National Capital Region with immediate effect after Delhi’s air quality showed significant improvement, according to the Commission for Air Quality Management.
The CAQM Sub-Committee took the decision after reviewing recent AQI trends and forecasts. It noted that Delhi’s air quality is likely to remain in the ‘Satisfactory’ to ‘Moderate’ category in the coming days.
Earlier, authorities had invoked Stage-I measures on April 16 when pollution levels began rising. However, recent rainfall and favourable weather conditions led to a sharp drop in pollution levels.
Delhi’s average AQI improved from 175 on May 3 to 88 on May 4, based on data from the Central Pollution Control Board. This improvement prompted the panel to withdraw restrictions under the graded response plan.
GRAP Stage-I revoked after sharp AQI drop
Despite the rollback, authorities directed all agencies to continue enforcing existing pollution control rules. These include guidelines issued by the environment ministry, CPCB, and state governments.
Officials stressed the need to sustain improved air quality through strict monitoring and timely action. They also highlighted the importance of dust control and adherence to sector-specific regulations.
Meanwhile, the CAQM said it will keep a close watch on the situation. It added that further decisions will depend on future AQI trends and weather forecasts.
