New Delhi: Indian Railways approved the Kavach project Ahmedabad for 598 route kilometres covering 48 block sections of the Ahmedabad Division of Western Railway in Gujarat. The project received a sanction of ₹140 crore.
The approval covers Kavach Version 4.0 installation under the broader programme for providing Kavach with an LTE-based communication backbone on the remaining routes of Indian Railways.
Earlier, Indian Railways sanctioned Kavach work on about 702 route kilometres in the Ahmedabad Division. Therefore, the latest approval will bring the remaining sections of the division under the indigenous train protection system.
Kavach project Ahmedabad expands rail safety coverage
Kavach is an indigenous Automatic Train Protection system that improves operational safety. It prevents Signal Passing at Danger, applies brakes during unsafe situations and controls train speed in critical conditions.
Moreover, the system reduces the possibility of train collisions and strengthens safety standards across the railway network.
Indian Railways continues to expand Kavach technology across the country. Furthermore, the initiative forms part of the Railways’ broader efforts to modernise operations and improve passenger safety.
