Kavitha criticises Telangana activists committee over lack of women

Hyderabad: Kalvakuntla Kavitha criticised the State government for excluding women from the Telangana activists committee formed to identify Telangana movement activists. She said the absence of even one woman member insulted women who actively participated in the Telangana movement.

Kavitha demanded 250-square-yard house sites for Telangana movement activists during the State Formation Day celebrations on June 2. She also sought fighter pensions for families of Telangana martyrs. She made the remarks during programmes and land struggles organised jointly by Telangana Rakshana Sena and Telangana activists’ associations.

The BRS leader said activists forced the Congress government to constitute the committee through continuous protests and agitations. However, she alleged that the Congress government often delayed decisions by forming committees. Kavitha warned that activists would intensify protests if the government failed to implement promises by June 2 this year.

Telangana activists committee formed by government

The Government of Telangana recently formed the special Telangana activists committee to identify Telangana movement activists and recommend welfare measures. The government appointed K. Keshava Rao as chairman of the panel.

Minister Ponnam Prabhakar and MLCs Kodandaram, Addanki Dayakar, Ramulu Naik, and Shobhan Reddy were included as members. Officials said the panel would identify activists and suggest measures for their recognition and welfare. The government issued GO No. 679 for the committee’s formation.
