Hyderabad: Telangana government launched the LIG houses Hyderabad project to construct one lakh affordable homes for poor and middle-class families across the city. Revenue and Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy said the government had started the first phase of the housing initiative in Hyderabad.
On Wednesday, Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy, Minister Azharuddin and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi inspected several locations in Nampally, Malakpet and Bahadurpura constituencies. The leaders visited Kulsumapura, Afzal Sagar, Kaladera and Gaddiannaram areas during the review.
The minister said the government planned to utilise vacant public lands and abandoned government buildings for the housing programme. He stated that the initiative would improve access to affordable housing for economically weaker sections in Hyderabad.
According to Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy, the government aimed to reduce housing difficulties faced by urban poor families. He added that the project would help provide dignified living conditions with proper civic infrastructure.
LIG houses Hyderabad plan enters survey phase
Officials have started identifying suitable lands for the first phase of construction. Authorities are also preparing layouts and infrastructure plans for roads, drainage and water supply facilities.
Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy said the government under Chief Minister Revanth Reddy remained committed to improving urban living standards. He added that officials were speeding up the implementation process to begin construction work at the earliest.
The minister said the housing programme would support both poor and middle-class families struggling to purchase homes in Hyderabad. He also instructed officials to complete surveys and land assessments quickly.
During the inspection, officials reviewed the condition of unused government properties in different parts of the city. The government plans to redevelop several vacant sites under the affordable housing programme.
Authorities said the project would create large-scale housing infrastructure in Hyderabad over the coming phases. The government expects the initiative to strengthen urban housing access for thousands of families.
