Hyderabad: Labour and Mines Minister G. Vivek Venkatswamy reviewed paddy procurement operations in Mancherial district and assured farmers that the Telangana government would procure every grain produced this season. He also warned that the government would not tolerate attempts to provoke farmers for political gains during the paddy procurement process.
The minister visited several procurement centres along with District Collector Kumar Anudeep and Civil Supplies officials. He interacted with farmers and reviewed arrangements at the centres.
Vivek Venkatswamy said paddy production increased sharply this season compared to the previous crop cycle. He stated that authorities procured around 1.10 lakh tonnes during the last season. However, the government now planned to continue procurement till June 6 and target nearly 1.70 lakh tonnes this time.
The minister said officials prepared three warehouses in neighbouring Peddapalli district for storage purposes. He admitted that shortages of hamalis and transport lorries caused some delays. However, he said the government was resolving the issues quickly. He added that Singareni authorities were also asked to provide additional lorries.
Paddy procurement arrangements expanded in district
Vivek Venkatswamy alleged that BRS leaders were organising politically motivated protests despite smooth procurement operations in the district. He said farmers required confidence and support during the procurement season.
The minister strongly criticised former MLA Balka Suman over his remarks during recent protests. He alleged that the BRS leader was making provocative statements after facing political rejection.
Vivek Venkatswamy said previous governments witnessed large numbers of stranded lorries during procurement operations. However, he claimed such situations were not prevailing now.
He warned that the government would take strict legal action against anyone damaging public property or violating the law for political purposes.
The minister also questioned Balka Suman’s statement regarding election spending of Rs 100 crore. He demanded that the former MLA explain the source of the money to the public.
Earlier, Vivek Venkatswamy inspected the newly established procurement centre at Indaram village. During the visit, he assured farmers that officials were taking all measures to prevent inconvenience and complete procurement smoothly.
