Kishan Reddy pulls up officials over Malakpet railway station delay

Hyderabad: Union Coal and Mines Minister G. Kishan Reddy expressed serious displeasure over delays in Malakpet railway station modernisation works during a surprise inspection on Saturday. He reviewed the ongoing development activities under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme at the railway station in Hyderabad.

During the inspection, the minister examined platform improvement works, passenger waiting halls, lifts, escalators, sanitation facilities, and expansion of entry points. Officials briefed him about the progress of the project and pending construction activities.

However, Kishan Reddy found that the pace of work had not met expectations. He strongly reprimanded the contractor and directed railway authorities to complete the project within the stipulated deadline.

The minister also instructed officials to speed up construction activities without causing inconvenience to passengers using the station daily. He stressed that authorities should not compromise on quality while executing public projects.

Railway officials informed the minister that passengers would receive improved infrastructure and amenities once the project was completed. The redevelopment works form part of the broader Amrit Bharat Station Scheme aimed at upgrading railway stations across the country.

The inspection also included a review of passenger movement areas, sanitation arrangements, and accessibility facilities at the station. Officials from South Central Railway and related departments accompanied the minister during the visit.

Local public representatives also participated in the inspection. Residents expressed hope that the surprise visit would accelerate pending works and improve the overall condition of the station.

Authorities are expected to increase monitoring of the project following the minister’s directions. Railway officials are also likely to review timelines and contractor performance to ensure faster completion of the works.
