Hyderabad: Medchal police detained a hotel worker for allegedly maintaining Pakistan terror links and sharing sensitive information with suspected operatives through social media platforms.
Police identified the accused as Zaheed Khan, a native of Uttar Pradesh who worked at Mubarak Hotel in Medchal. Investigators said he shifted to Hyderabad in February and joined the hotel as a waiter.
According to police, the accused stayed in regular contact with Pakistan-based individuals through Instagram and other online platforms. Officials alleged that he repeatedly expressed interest in travelling to Pakistan for terror-related training activities.
Investigators claimed Pakistan-based handlers asked him to collect and share details linked to certain public representatives and local security arrangements. Police suspect that he passed some information through digital communication channels.
Officials also stated that the accused frequently watched terror-related videos online and uploaded photographs featuring firearms on social media accounts.
Pakistan terror links case expands digital investigation
During the operation, police seized one mobile phone and two fake pistols from the accused. Investigators said the mobile phone contained WhatsApp chats, Instagram reels, screenshots and voice call records connected to the ongoing inquiry.
Police alleged that Zaheed knowingly interacted with Pakistan ISI-linked operatives despite understanding the security risks involved. Intelligence and counter-intelligence teams have now joined the investigation to examine the digital evidence in detail.
Officials are also analysing deleted communication records and verifying the accused’s online contacts. During the inquiry, investigators identified one Pakistan-based individual allegedly connected to terror-related activities.
Police said the case remained under active investigation and further questioning of the accused was likely. Authorities are now attempting to establish whether any additional individuals were involved in the suspected network.
The investigation gained significance amid heightened security monitoring over online radicalisation and cross-border communication involving suspected anti-national activities. However, police have not yet disclosed details regarding possible charges or court proceedings in the case.
