MIM SIR allegations: Congress seeks ECI probe into Hyderabad voter revision process

Hyderabad: Congress senior leader Mohammed Waliullah Sameer on Wednesday urged the Election Commission of India to investigate MIM SIR allegations after claiming that unauthorised political workers were interfering with the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise in Hyderabad.

Sameer, Congress in-charge for the Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency and former Hyderabad District Congress Committee president, alleged that people linked to AIMIM were handling voter enrolment forms and electoral information in several parts of the city.

He said the Election Commission had directed Booth Level Officers (BLOs) to visit every household, distribute enumeration forms, guide voters and complete verification under official supervision.

However, Sameer alleged that several BLOs skipped door-to-door visits in some localities. Instead, they reportedly asked voters to collect or submit forms at schools, community halls, function halls and other locations.

He claimed this practice created hardship for senior citizens, women, persons with disabilities and working people. As a result, many voters could face unnecessary inconvenience during the revision exercise.

Congress raises concerns over MIM SIR allegations

Sameer alleged that political workers were distributing, collecting and handling SIR forms in some areas. He said these MIM SIR allegations raised serious questions about the transparency and neutrality of the voter revision process.

According to him, SIR records contain sensitive voter information, including names, addresses and family details. Therefore, only authorised election officials should handle these documents.

He clarified that Booth Level Agents can assist political parties only within the limits prescribed by the Election Commission. They cannot replace BLOs, retain official forms or independently collect voter documents.

Sameer urged the Election Commission and the Chief Electoral Officer of Telangana to issue fresh instructions to ensure strict house-to-house verification across Hyderabad.

He also demanded immediate verification of complaints, recovery of any SIR material kept outside official custody and disciplinary action against officials who failed to follow prescribed procedures.

Further, he requested police protection for BLOs wherever necessary so they could perform their duties without political pressure.

Sameer said public confidence in the electoral process depended on fairness, transparency and neutrality. He urged the Election Commission to act quickly and ensure that every eligible voter could participate without interference.
