Mumbai: The 19th edition of the Mumbai International Film Festival commenced with a grand inaugural ceremony at Ravindra Natya Mandir in Mumbai. The festival brought together filmmakers, industry experts and cinema enthusiasts from India and abroad.
The National Film Development Corporation organised the festival under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. The event continued its legacy as South Asia’s oldest and largest platform dedicated to documentary, short fiction, animation and AI-generated films.
Several prominent personalities from the film and cultural sectors attended the opening ceremony. The guests included Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Dr. L. Murugan, NFDC Chairman G. Krishnakumar, NFDC Managing Director Prakash Magdum, filmmaker Dr. Chandraprakash Dwivedi and actor Jaideep Ahlawat.
The opening day also witnessed the presence of Maharashtra Cultural Affairs and IT Minister Ashish Shelar, filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker, actress Sheena Chohan, Kiran Shantaram and senior officials from the media and cultural departments.

The Mumbai International Film Festival serves as a major platform for non-feature cinema and creative storytelling. It encourages documentary makers, animation artists, short filmmakers and creators working with AI-driven formats to showcase their work.
Furthermore, the festival promotes cultural exchange by connecting global voices in cinema. Delegates and filmmakers from different countries participate in discussions, screenings and interactions celebrating innovation in storytelling.
The 19th edition of the festival highlighted India’s growing role in supporting diverse cinematic expressions and emerging technologies in filmmaking.
