Hyderabad: On National Girl Child Day, Telangana Youth Congress elected State General Secretary Almas Khan criticised the BJP-led Central Government, calling the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign a publicity-driven slogan.
Addressing the media, he said the government would not have allowed crimes against girl children to rise if it had implemented the scheme sincerely. He pointed to school dropouts, malnutrition, anaemia and child marriages as continuing failures. According to him, the BJP focused on optics instead of long-term protection for daughters.
Despite crores shown as allocations, Almas Khan alleged that the Centre failed to deliver results on the ground. He said girls from poor, rural, minority, SC and ST communities suffered the most. He added that education, health, nutrition, safety and skills received no serious attention.
National Girl Child Day underscores Telangana Congress claims
Highlighting National Girl Child Day, Almas Khan compared the Centre’s approach with that of the Telangana Congress government. He said Chief Minister Revanth Reddy prioritised education, healthcare and economic independence for girls. He added that the focus remained on dignity and equal opportunity.
Calling for reflection, he said the day should not remain symbolic. Instead, it must remind governments of their constitutional duty. He argued that a country which neglects its daughters cannot call itself developed.
Concluding his remarks, Almas Khan urged the Central Government to replace slogans with accountability-driven action. He said only measurable steps could truly empower every girl child in India.
