New Delhi: The Centre has identified 1,244 products across 773 districts under the One District One Product initiative. The programme promotes local industries, improves market access and supports balanced regional development, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry informed Parliament.
The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) said State and Union Territory governments choose products based on local strengths. The programme focuses on branding, promotion and business growth. It also helps districts build stronger local economies.
The government has organised domestic and international exhibitions to promote these products. It has also conducted capacity-building programmes and GeM onboarding drives. In addition, it has encouraged States and UTs to use Central and State schemes for infrastructure, skills, branding and exports.
PM Ekta Malls improve market access
The Centre offers financial assistance of up to ₹200 crore under the Scheme for Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment. States can use the support to establish PM Ekta Malls. These malls promote ODOP, GI-tagged and local handicraft products.
The Ministry of Food Processing Industries runs the PM Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) scheme. It offers a 35% credit-linked capital subsidy of up to ₹10 lakh. The scheme also supports self-help groups, entrepreneurship training, common infrastructure and branding.
The government has strengthened exports through the Districts as Export Hubs initiative. It has identified export products in 734 districts. It has also formed export promotion committees across all States and Union Territories. Besides this, it has approved 249 District Export Action Plans.
More than 500 ODOP product categories covering 1,300 products are available on the Government e-Marketplace. Several States have also launched dedicated e-commerce platforms for district products.
The Centre has partnered with Indian missions abroad to organise exhibitions and buyer-seller meetings. It has set up ODOP Walls at several missions. Three international retail stores, including two in Singapore and one in Kuwait, now sell ODOP products. The ministry said these efforts have improved market access, encouraged entrepreneurship and supported jobs. However, it does not maintain district-wise export data.
