New Delhi: Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation said the PAIMANA portal monitored 1,981 Central Sector infrastructure projects worth ₹42.78 lakh crore as of April 2026, with cumulative expenditure reaching ₹20.36 lakh crore.
The ministry said the projects were being implemented across 17 Central ministries and departments. Around 801 projects achieved more than 80 per cent physical progress, while 277 projects crossed 80 per cent financial completion.
According to the ministry, transport and logistics accounted for the highest number of projects. The sector included 1,459 ongoing projects with revised costs of ₹23.34 lakh crore.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways handled 1,137 projects with revised costs of ₹10.81 lakh crore. The Ministry of Railways implemented 260 projects worth ₹8.69 lakh crore.
The report said 814 mega projects worth ₹31.63 lakh crore and 1,167 major projects worth ₹5.49 lakh crore were under monitoring.
Officials said physical and financial progress moved broadly together across several projects. They added that many projects remained in early stages while several others neared completion.
Transport sector dominates PAIMANA portal monitoring
The ministry said the energy sector accounted for 221 projects worth ₹11.30 lakh crore. Water and sanitation projects covered 67 projects with revised costs of ₹2.30 lakh crore.
Communication infrastructure projects stood at ₹2.73 lakh crore across 12 projects. Social and commercial infrastructure projects covered sectors including education, healthcare and tourism.
During April 2026, authorities commissioned nine projects in sectors including railways, power, housing and highways. These included a flyover and road project in Nagpur, a Rajasthan power transmission system and the Jabalpur sewerage management project.
The ministry also added 55 new projects to the monitoring system during the month. Among them were the Bangalore Metro Rail Project Phase-3 worth ₹15,611 crore and the Kalai-II Hydro Electric Project worth ₹14,105.83 crore.
Officials said the portal functioned as a centralised web-based monitoring platform for infrastructure projects costing ₹150 crore and above. The system also integrated project data from multiple ministries through automated APIs.
The ministry said the monitoring mechanism aimed to improve project reviews, strengthen data-driven decision-making and support infrastructure development across the country.
