Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Wednesday directed officials to modernise policing standards and strengthen police system reforms in Telangana to tackle emerging crime trends and security threats.
During a review meeting at the MCR HRD Institute, the Chief Minister asked officials to prepare long-term plans for the next 10 years. Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao, State Security Adviser B. Shivdhar Reddy and DGP C.V. Anand attended the meeting along with senior police, fire services and HYDRAA officials.
CM Revanth Reddy said cybercrime cases were increasing rapidly. Therefore, he directed the Chief Secretary and DGP to study crime patterns and submit a detailed report. He also proposed special recruitment for cybercrime divisions and suggested introducing dedicated training courses at Young India Skills University.
Further, the Chief Minister instructed officials to strengthen drone policing, improve night patrolling and increase CCTV surveillance across the State. He also asked departments to make better use of the Integrated Command and Control Centre.
Police system reforms focus on cybercrime control
Chief Minister directed departments to expand forensic and data centres based on future requirements. He also suggested that officers from SI rank to non-cadre IPS level should work in other departments for two years after promotions.
In addition, CM Revanth Reddy asked officials to establish de-addiction centres for drug victims and improve coordination among departments. He instructed the vigilance department to increase the use of technology and data analysis to tackle organised crime.
Chief Minister also directed the fire services department to focus on prevention measures and submit a detailed report before June 15 in coordination with GHMC and HYDRAA officials.
Further, he instructed authorities to improve nala maintenance and manhole management. He also ordered strict action against illegal flex banners and food adulteration cases.
CM Revanth Reddy warned officials against negligence in maintaining law and order. He stressed that the government would not tolerate corruption in the department and said postings should depend on merit. He also stated that the State government was holding discussions with the Centre to increase the number of IPS officers in Telangana.
