Hyderabad: Government Adviser Mohammed Ali Shabbir called for village, ward and booth-level special teams to conduct a voter roll revision through house-to-house verification and ensure that no eligible voter is excluded during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process.
Shabbir Ali made the appeal after submitting his voter details under the SIR exercise at his residence in Kamareddy. Officials completed the process under the supervision of the in-charge Additional Collector.
He said the right to vote remains one of the most important rights in a democracy. Therefore, he urged Congress leaders, workers, sarpanches, ward members, councillors, booth-level agents and booth-level officers to coordinate closely during the exercise.
The senior Congress leader said the Election Commission of India and the official machinery must carry out the revision process transparently. He added that every step should strengthen public trust in the electoral system.
House-to-house voter roll revision urged
Shabbir Ali stressed that authorities must protect genuine voters from wrongful deletion. At the same time, he said officials should identify and remove duplicate and ineligible entries to improve transparency.
He urged party leaders and workers to visit every household and verify electoral records at the booth level. In addition, he asked them to help all eligible young citizens aged 18 and above register as voters.
Referring to concerns raised by democratic groups about electoral rolls in some states, he said officials and political parties must remain vigilant. He added that safeguarding the integrity of voter lists is essential for free and fair elections.
“Every vote has equal value in a democracy. Protecting the right to vote is the responsibility of every political party and every citizen,” Shabbir Ali said. He reiterated that eligible voters should remain on the rolls while duplicate and ineligible entries should be removed.
Congress leaders, public representatives, booth-level agents, party workers and officials attended the programme.
