Hyderabad: Telangana government on Tuesday increased the government job age limit by 10 years for recruitment to general category state government posts.
Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao issued official orders confirming the revised age criteria. Under the earlier rules, candidates could apply for most government jobs only up to 34 years of age. However, the latest decision raised the upper age limit to 44 years.
Officials said the relaxation would apply to all general recruitment notifications issued during the next one year. The government took the decision after many unemployed candidates sought relief because of delays in recruitment after Telangana’s formation.
The state also considered disruptions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and delays in issuing recruitment notifications over the years. According to officials, many eligible candidates crossed the earlier age limit while waiting for vacancies to be announced.
Government job age limit relaxed for upcoming recruitments
The government clarified that the revised rule would apply to recruitment notifications issued by various state recruitment agencies. Officials said the measure aimed to provide wider employment opportunities for job aspirants affected by recruitment delays.
However, the age relaxation will not apply to uniformed services that require physical fitness standards. Existing recruitment rules will continue for police, excise, fire services, prisons and forest department posts.
Officials stated that the decision would benefit thousands of unemployed youth preparing for competitive examinations in Telangana. In addition, the move is expected to increase participation in upcoming recruitment drives across departments.
The government said recruitment agencies would soon issue fresh notifications under the revised eligibility rules. Candidates have also been advised to check official recruitment notifications carefully for department-specific conditions.
Meanwhile, unemployed groups welcomed the decision and said it would provide relief to aspirants who lost opportunities because of delayed recruitment processes.
