Telangana government approves free accident insurance for employees

Hyderabad: Telangana Cabinet approved a free employee accident insurance scheme that will provide accident and life insurance cover to government employees without imposing any additional financial burden on employees or the state, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka announced on Thursday.

Bhatti said the Cabinet, led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, negotiated with banks to introduce the scheme at no extra cost. He described it as a first-of-its-kind initiative aimed at providing financial security to government employees and their families.

Under the scheme, the family of an employee who dies in a general accident will receive ₹1.25 crore. Compensation for deaths in air accidents will range between ₹2 crore and ₹3 crore.

Employees aged between 18 and 60 years will also receive life insurance coverage of ₹10 lakh. In addition, the policy will provide financial assistance in cases of permanent total or partial disability caused by accidents.

Employee accident insurance to cover all eligible staff

The employee accident insurance scheme will cover regular, contract, outsourcing and other temporary employees whose salaries are processed through government records each month.

Bhatti said the government wanted to ensure that no family faced financial hardship after losing its primary earning member. He added that the initiative reflected the government’s commitment to standing by employees during difficult times.

The Deputy Chief Minister also said the present government had ensured salary payments on the first day of every month through improved financial management. He noted that delayed salaries under the previous government had affected employees with housing, vehicle and education loan repayments.

Furthermore, Bhatti announced that the Cabinet had approved the creation of a dedicated trust to provide comprehensive cashless medical services for government employees. He said the decision would offer a permanent solution to long-pending issues related to employee health cards.
