Hyderabad: Tourism and Culture Minister Jupally Krishna Rao on Monday announced that the Telangana government would spend ₹5 crore on tourist guide training and recruitment at historical sites across the state.
The Minister made the announcement during International Museum Day celebrations at the State Museum in Public Gardens, Hyderabad. He said the programme would improve tourism services while creating employment opportunities for local youth near heritage destinations.
Jupally Krishna Rao said the government planned to introduce specialised training for guides at monuments, museums and historical locations. He added that trained guides would help visitors understand the historical and cultural importance of Telangana’s heritage sites.
The Minister described museums as living centres of knowledge that preserved civilisation, culture and history for future generations. He also said heritage conservation remained a shared responsibility of both the government and society.
The programme began with the Minister lighting a traditional lamp. He later released official brochures and two books titled Paramara Jagaddeva’s Inscriptions in Telangana and Stucco Sculptures in Centenary Museum.
Tourist guide training to strengthen heritage tourism
Jupally Krishna Rao said Telangana possessed rich historical and cultural assets that deserved wider recognition. He added that the government aimed to place the state prominently on the global tourism map through stronger heritage promotion.
The Minister said earlier generations created remarkable monuments without modern technology. Therefore, he stressed the importance of preserving such structures for future generations.
He also highlighted that UNESCO’s recognition of Ramappa Temple had increased international attention on Telangana’s cultural legacy. According to him, this recognition created fresh opportunities for tourism growth in the state.
Meanwhile, the Minister reiterated that the government attached high priority to monument conservation and museum development. He said the tourist guide training initiative would improve visitor experiences and generate new livelihood opportunities.
Officials said the programme would focus on communication skills, heritage awareness and visitor assistance. In addition, the government expects the initiative to support tourism-related economic activity around major destinations.
